Learning Support

The College has a well resourced and expert Learning Support team that ensures that we meet our obligations under the Disability Standards for Education 2005.  At Bethany College, we ensure that all students with a disability are able to participate in their learning on the same basis as their peers through rigorous, meaningful and dignified learning programs.

We take steps to provide reasonable adjustments for students who are identified as needing learning support.

REASONABLE ADJUSTMENTS TO ASSESSMENT FOR STUDENTS IN YEARS 7-10

  • Any adjustment should ideally be embedded within the core class task.

  • Adjustments can be made to the CONTENT, PROCESS and PRODUCT of a task as long as the outcomes are being met commensurate with peers and the task maintains its integrity .

  • Different tasks/ extended time/ reduction of tasks should only be considered if a decision has been made through a consultative process with parents and Learning Support (refer to IEP) For eg:  A student might only have the potential to achieve at a maximum Grade C Level.

  • Students following a  Life Skills Program  work towards different outcomes therefore their assessments are tailored to suit their individual needs and they are not assessed against their peers.

REASONABLE ADJUSTMENTS TO ASSESSMENT FOR STUDENTS IN YEARS 11 -12

  • Using BOSTES guidelines, no adjustments to the Content, Process and Product of tasks are to made for these students.

  • Students can receive disability provisions for examinations – eg: extra time, reader. This is made in consultation with Learning Support Coordinator, the student and parents with the understanding that it is reasonable that the student will receive this adjustment from BOSTES for the H.S.C.

  • Students  following  a Life Skills Program work towards different outcomes, therefore their assessments are tailored to suit their individual needs and they are not assessed against their peers.
